Here's a trippy thought...
05.9.2009 I was watching TV tonight and I found myself constantly looking up things on my iPhone. This is a habit that that has been growing ever since I bought the "breakthrough internet device". It seems that every time I have a question about something, or an interest, I pick up my iPhone, or laptop, and look it up. Now just 11 short years ago I didn't even have a cellphone. I had, only recently, purchased my first computer. Back in the day (1998 and earlier) if I needed information I had to look at an encyclopedia, which meant going to a library, or if I needed a phone number I had to look in a phone book, or call 411. But even 411 wasn't around when I was a kid. Now, when I want to know something, I only need to type it in the Google prompt...where ever I happen to be. My access to information has taken a quantum leap in little more than a decade. It's astounding really.
Now here is the trippy part. The more technology advances, the faster it advances, and we are living in a time where technology is advancing faster than we can even dream of. So if in the past 10 years or so I have gone from having no immediate access to information, to having a wireless interface for almost any and all information, that I can carry around in my pocket... how long will it be before I no longer even need the interface?
My thought as I was watching TV and looking up things that I saw that I wanted more info on (my Google search for tonight was "Mathew Gospel"" Number of registered Deocrats US""Number of registered Republicans US""stop snoring" to name a few) was that some day in the not too distant future I might not need to look anything up. I think that someday we will all be connected to the internet with our minds alone. It sounds weird now, but currently, monkeys are controlling robotic arms with their minds so can it really be that far off? In 1995 if someone showed me a device that could make phone calls from anywhere, and held an entire music library, and movies, and could pinpoint my exact location on a map, and could access any information I wanted, it would have blown my fucking mind. So what does 2020 hold that will blow my mind now? Apple's slogan for the iPod used to be "A thousand songs in your pocket", I think the slogan for the next evolution in information will be "Everything you ever wanted to know, in your head".
